BIM INNOVATION

"BIM" is the abbreviation of “Building Information Modeling”, which means "to shape the information of a building (to represent building in three dimensionally)". It helps to express the design idea more realistically during the design phase by presenting a building three-dimensionally like the real one on computer screen by inputting the structural and equipment installation information of the building more specifically, as well as the information of time axis, surrounding land & natural environment. As a result, it becomes possible to have various analysis and to be able to visualize the advanced stage of design from the initial planning stage.

WHAT BIM CAN DO

Since it is possible to accumulate objects by “BIM”, object information such as the length, width, depth and height of each building materials and it`s assembly processes can also be incorporated. Since various equipment information can be input such as parts number, manufacturer`s name, unit price, etc., the data can be used as the basis for building`s future maintenance even after the completion. In other words, the information can be used comprehensively from design to construction and maintenance as well.

ADVANTAGES OF BIM

Until now, two-dimensional drawings and perspectives from a certain angle were mainly used for the proposal in planning stage, but by using "BIM", it becomes possible to visualize three-dimensionally from any angle. The process and required time for making decision become significantly shortened. In addition, as because all data are linked, defects due to correction or changes (duplicate, missing, incorrect input, etc.) are also become possible to overcome.

HOW TO USE BIM

Shadow analysis can be performed by entering the land & natural environment information including the time axis. For example, it can be used for more environmentally conscious design, such as utilizing natural energy by considering the daylight angle or how to take natural light into the building. Since detailed information such as building materials and various facilities can be input, schedule management, construction period, and specification work can be performed automatically, which can be time saving for design. Until now, in case of having any correction or changes, it was necessary to correct various places such as plan, elevation, section, perspective, floor area, quantity etc. However, in case of “BIM”, if any changes or correction occurred, the accompanying parts are also being corrected automatically. So that, the design errors are less likely to occur.
